You Are My Strong Tower

Daily Devotional for October 3, 2015

Psalm 60-61

Scripture:

61:1 Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer.

61:2 From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

61:3 For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe.

61:4 I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.

Observation:

As we walk on this discipleship journey there will be days when we feel invincible and on top of the world. On the other hand, there will be days when our heart grows faint and our faith is week. It’s in these moments when the true desire of our heart is revealed. Hopefully we will respond as David did in verse 4, that we long to dwell in God’s tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of His wings. At the end of each day, whether good or bad, let us never forget that God is our refuge and a strong tower against the foe.

Application:

  • Personal Application: Spend a few moments every day expressing thanks to God for being our refuge. This can be done before you get out of bed in the morning, while you enjoy your coffee, while you are driving to work, before you eat lunch, or before you go to bed. Find a time that works for you and tell God, everyday, how thankful you are.
  • Family Devotional: Read this passage to your family. Remind them that God is always there for them. Encourage them to turn to God, especially when they are tired or discouraged. Pray for them.

Prayer:

  • Personal Prayer Focus: Ask God, in my moments of weakness, to “lead me to a rock that is higher than I.”
  • Family Prayer Focus: Pray that the Lord will be there for your family when they are tired and discouraged. Pray that the Holy Spirit will encourage them and give them the strength they need to continue on the discipleship journey.
