Daily Devotional “Be The One”

Daily Devotional for October 17, 2015

Jeremiah 5

Scripture:

1 “Go up and down the streets of Jerusalem, look around and consider, search through her squares. If you can find but one person who deals honestly and seeks the truth, I will forgive this city.

2 Although they say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives,’ still they are swearing falsely.”

3 O LORD, do not your eyes look for truth? You struck them, but they felt no pain; you crushed them, but they refused correction. They made their faces harder than stone and refused to repent.

Observation:

It only takes one parent, one leader, one person to make all the difference in your home, workplace, church, or community. Hearing the stories of what God is doing through the lives of others is incredibly encouraging. Being used by God to fulfill his mission, however, is a life-changing experience. It’s one thing to hear a story, it’s another to be a part of the story.

This chapter shows that it only takes one person to make all the difference. As Spirit-Empowered Men, responding the Holy Spirit will eventually become a routine experience. There will be times when God calls you to “be the one” through a response that will require a lot of energy, effort, or even sacrifice. Other times it may be more simple, for instance, sharing an encouraging word with someone. Either way, it is an awesome opportunity to be chosen by God to “be the one” in those particular situations. The question for us today is, will you “be the one” to respond to the leading of the Holy Spirit to fulfill God’s mission when He calls?

Application:

  • Personal Application: Remember that God has chosen you to be His representative. There are times when He will call you to “be the one” in a specific situation. I encourage you to be ready and willing for God to use you in those times.
  • Family Devotional: Read this passage to your family. Remind them that God has called them to participate in His mission. In addition, God has given them abilities and passions that he will often use in this mission. Pray with them that they will hear the voice of the Lord when He calls.

Prayer:

  • Personal Prayer Focus: Ask God to help you hear His voice when He is calling you to be the one.
  • Family Prayer Focus: Pray that God will help your family identify the value/significance He has for them and the purpose/mission He has called them to.
