Daily Devotional “A Father’s Influence”

Daily Devotional for October 28, 2015

Jeremiah 16

Scripture:

9 For this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Before your eyes and in your days I will bring an end to the sounds of joy and gladness and to the voices of bride and bridegroom in this place.

10 “When you tell these people all this and they ask you, ‘Why has the LORD decreed such a great disaster against us? What wrong have we done? What sin have we committed against the LORD our God?’

11 then say to them, ‘It is because your fathers forsook me,’ declares the LORD, ‘and followed other gods and served and worshiped them. They forsook me and did not keep my law.

12 But you have behaved more wickedly than your fathers. See how each of you is following the stubbornness of his evil heart instead of obeying me.

Observation:

There is no denying the influence of a father in this passage. As Spirit-Empowered Men, we have the opportunity to set up the next generation for success. In order to accomplish this, we must live our lives as a model for others to follow. In serving the Lord with all our heart, we empower the next generation and those around us to do the same. Our very actions can and will inspire others to either follow the Lord or turn away from Him. What impression are you leaving on those around you?

Application:

  • Personal Application: We have an incredible influence on those around us and those who follow us. Leading by example, serving the Lord with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength will empower others to do the same.
  • Family Devotional: Read this passage to your family. Remind them of the leadership opportunities all around them. The most important thing we can do for others is to serve God with all our heart and listen to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Pray for them.

Prayer:

  • Personal Prayer Focus: Ask God to help you on this discipleship journey. Ask Him to help you model for others what it means to serve Him.
  • Family Prayer Focus: Pray that the Lord will guide your family on their discipleship journey and their hearts will always stay sensitive to the prompting of the Holy Spirit.
