Daily Devotional “In His Plan”

Daily Devotion for October 13, 2015

Jeremiah 1

Scripture:

4 The word of the LORD came to me, saying,

5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

6 “Ah, Sovereign LORD,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am only a child.”

7 But the LORD said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a child.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you.

8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the LORD.

Observation:

It is humbling and reassuring to realize that the God who created the world, knows who we are. Not only does He know us, but He set us apart and when we follow His lead He will rescue us from disaster. In other words, He will show up in the middle of our weakness! Understanding this helps me to take another step of faith each day. The notes on verse 8 in the Fire Bible state it well, “God responded to Jeremiah’s concern by promising to be with him and to empower him for his God-given purpose. No matter what task God gives you in life, he promises to be with you always and help you accomplish it if you remain strong in your faith an devotion to him. We must also remember that we are never too young – or too old – for God to begin using us in a meaningful and powerful way.” You are never too young or too old to follow God’s plan. If you will take the step toward Him, He will empower you to accomplish the rest.

Application:

  • Personal Application: Be willing to take the next steps in your discipleship journey. We may not always know what is around the corner, however, we can have faith that God will be there each step of the way.
  • Family Devotional: Read this chapter to your family. Remind them that God has a plan and a purpose for them. Ask if they know what God’s purpose for their life may be. Whether they know or not, encourage them to keep walking on the discipleship journey with the Lord. Pray with them.

Prayer:

  • Personal Prayer Focus: Ask God for the courage to respond to the voice of the Lord when He calls.
  • Family Prayer Focus: Pray that the Lord will continue to speak to your family and that He will help them to know His plan for their life.
