Daily Devotional for October 10, 2015
Colossians 3
Strong and Compassionate
Scripture:
12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
Observation:
Today, millions of people will be locked into football games all across the nation. I know I will. During most of these games there will be clear lines drawn between friend and foe. This line will be determined by which color you wear, what mascot you prefer, or what city you come from. At the end of the day, however, it’s just football. Did I just say that? As Spirit-Empowered men, we must be strong while also being filled with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and love. The way we treat others will, in many ways, reflect our relationship with Christ. For a few hours today it’s about winning, but after that, let the peace of Christ dwell in your heart and worship Him with your life.
Go Bucks!
Application:
- Personal Application: Think about your interactions with others at home, work, church, and in the community. Do these attributes reflect those interactions? Ask God to help you in representing Him in this way.
- Family Devotional: Read this passage to your family. Ask them what it means to clothe yourself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make an agreement to hold each other accountable in letting these attributes guide the way you treat others. Pray with them.
Prayer:
- Personal Prayer Focus: Ask God the help you treat others with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and love. Pray for unity at home, at work, at church, and in your community.
- Family Prayer Focus: Pray that your family will focus their heart and mind on heavenly things and will always put Christ first in their life.
