Daily Devotional “Praying for You”

Daily Devotional for October 8, 2015

Colossians 1

Scripture:

9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.

10 And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,

11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully

12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.

Observation:

As I read this passage, I couldn’t help but stop and pray for you. I prayed for you as men who read this e-mail, for God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. I prayed that your life will please the Lord and bear good fruit as you grow in the knowledge of Him. I prayed that you will be strengthened by the Holy Spirit to keep going on this journey of discipleship. And in all things, you will give God praise and thanks for all that He has done.

This is an incredible model for prayer. I think it would be good to focus today on praying for others. Pray that God’s plans will be accomplished as we will fully devote our lives to the Lord, depending on Him every step of the way. I encourage you to pray for others whenever the Spirit brings this devotional to your mind. My prayer for you today is that these verses will be a reality in your life.

Application:

  • Personal Application: As Paul prayed for the church and leaders in Colosse, let’s pray for those around us and those in need of God’s presence, purpose, and provision.
  • Family Devotional: Read this passage to your family. Walk them through the model for prayer shown in verses 9-12. Take some time praying this Scripture over each family member.

Prayer:

  • Personal Prayer Focus: Pray this passage of Scripture for yourself and ask God to remind you of this prayer as you interact with others.
  • Family Prayer Focus: Pray this Scripture over your family.
